Christmas Song: Neutral Milk Hotel

A long time ago, the best musicians (classic composers) wrote almost all their music for God. Some people might say it’s the other way around nowadays. Not without reason – I never caught my church on having good taste in music, with the endless choirs and organs. People still make great songs for God though, like this one from Neutral Milk Hotel, featured on the album ‘In the Aeroplane Over the Sea’ (1998). Had the church been playing this in the holy service, I’d been one devoted Christian.

Jeff Mangum from Neutral Milk Hotel had this to say about the song:

“A song for and old friend and a song for a new friend and now a song for Jesus Christ and since this seems to confuse people I’d like to simply say that I mean what I sing although the theme of endless endless on this album is not based on any religion but more on the belief that all things seem to contain a white light that I see as eternal.”

Instead of the lyrics for the song, this was written in the album leaflet. Check YouTube for the song lyrics, and enjoy this masterpiece.
