Public Service Broadcasting – Eurosonic 2013

Next week, awesomeness will hit Groningen with the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival. The Noorderslag foundation initiated the European Talent Exchange Program, which stimulates the exchange of artists across Europe. One of the visiting artists is a duo from London: Public Service Broadcasting. Last year (2012) they published the War Room EP.

Public Service Broadcasting – London Can Take It

They’ve got a unique recipe for their music. PSB takes old public information films and other (propagandic) archive material, and entertains audiences with the resulting movies accompanied by their music. Or, in their own words:

teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future”

What makes them special for me is that their message can be separated from the music, which makes Public Service Broadcasting a splendid crossover from visual arts to music (not the other way around).

One last addition: both their music and their videos remind me of this user video of Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls by Godspeed You Black Emperor. It’s probably what happens if you don’t take Public Service Broadcasting seriously…
